Andoria

(Star Trek: Enterprise, "The Aenar")
Andoria, though referred to colloquially as a homeworld which gives the impression of an independent planet, is a moon and one among many -- but it did not begin as such. Commonly accepted theory has been that it formed as its own stellar object in the system, where it may very likely have become a more typical M-class world. But late into its formation, it was caught in the path of a rogue gas giant that had strayed into the pull of their main sun several hundred million years ago, though exact dates remain hotly debated.
Meanwhile, Andoria's entry into the planet's orbit caused several original smaller satellites to fall into its Roche limit, shredding most of the other moons and creating the icy rings seen today. While Andor's rings are impressive today, they are theorized to have shrunk by nearly 40% due to Andor's uneven orbit bringing it closer to the solar frost line. In what has been described once as 'a bewildering level of interstellar waltzes and sheer luck', Andoria's atmosphere and the majority of its water surface survived being captured, allowing it to retain protection against Andor's magnetospheric radiation. Carbon record shows that a near-total mass extinction comparable to Earth's Great Dying or Kataan's Ressik Event occurred at this time.
Upon being captured, Andoria was pulled into a horseshoe orbit with another one of Andor's pre-existing moons and its second-largest, Olith. Olith and Andoria switch places every few years; its magnetic pull prevents Andoria from becoming tidally locked and thus allowing for it to rotate. Andor's own eccentric orbit also contributes to life on Andoria, bringing it habitually past the frost line long enough for life to survive the colder years.
This setup has resulted in complicated but predictable seasonal changes on Andoria, where the lunar year and the solar year both have massive differences that Andoria's animal and plant life have built their path of evolution around.
